Dina Wind (1938-2014) receives Outstanding Philadelphia Artist Award on the opening night of the Philadelphia Fine Art Fair on Thursday, April 4, 2019.
Philadelphia, PA – Bridgette Mayer Gallery is pleased to announce gallery artist Dina Wind’s (1938-2014) Outstanding Philadelphia Artist Award presented by the Philadelphia Fine Art Fair in its inaugural event. Wind was honored with the award for her for a lifetime commitment to her own artistic practice, and to the Philadelphia community.
Originally from Israel, Wind moved to Philadelphia in 1963. She earned her B.A. from the Hebrew University [Jerusalem, Israel], M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania [Philadelphia, PA], and a certificate in art appreciation from the Barnes Foundation.
In the early 1970’s Wind studied studio painting classes with Sam Feinstein (who studied with Hans Hoffman) and later with Philadelphia artist Tom Gaughan. In 1978, she switched mediums from painting to metal sculpture studying with Leon Sitarchuk at the Cheltenham Art Center. Finding beauty in found materials and scrap metal, she used these materials to create abstract compositions that she likened to ‘drawing in space’.
The award was presented by Rick Friedman the fair’s Executive Director, and was accepted by son, John Wind and husband, Jerry Wind.
